The direct answer
The access point is part of the job. A visible cleanout does not establish the entire pipe route or the final repair boundary. Show where accessible features are located and let the responsible trade determine how they can be used safely. Do not open a suspect cleanout to improve a photo request.
Show the access and surrounding area
Useful pictures include the surrounding path, walls, landscaping or hardscape and any existing visible cap. Tell AWC whether the access is in a common area, locked space or occupied room. Mention known plans or previous locating work if available, while keeping them separate from a verified current route. A line on an old drawing may be useful background without proving what is underground now.
Define opening and restoration limits
If a scope involves opening paving, landscape or a wall, ask how those limits are defined. Who locates relevant utilities? Which surfaces are removed, and which are restored? Does the proposed repair affect a property line, easement, public area or another unit? These details can change the method and approval path. They cannot be settled by measuring a photograph or assuming the nearest route is correct.
Keep clearing and construction distinct
Keep a distinction between clearing, assessment and construction. A clearing request authorizes the stated clearing work. It does not automatically authorize excavation, removal of a fixture or replacement of a pipe section. If another step is needed, ask for the finding, the proposed boundary and the added cost or allowance before it proceeds. The person at the property may not be the person authorized to make that decision.
Compare the intended result
Compare proposals by result: restored flow, a documented inspection of a specified section, or a repaired section with agreed restoration. Name the verification associated with each. For difficult access, shared property or connected trades, the $250 Site Evaluation + Written Bid Package can help establish that scope. Send the existing access photos and any prior report; AWC will review the appropriate next step before committing to a repair method.
